This is overpriced for what it is. The font size is great for elderly readers with cataracts. However I think the large font size was used as filler to make this pamphlets worth of material into a very thin "book". I found the book helpful how she tells her personal story. The frustration with a food allergy is very real. The food lists (the main reason I ordered) can easily be found online and printed for free. I found the information (while written with good intent) to be unorganized, unclear and possibly wrong in some cases. Ex: Magnesium use and supplements. The author has several health issues going on and it could be misleading to a reader who is new to a food allergy. The recipe section didn't clearly specify what diet restrictions to be aware of. If you need food recipes Oscars Mom blog space has a very organized food list for specific allergy intolerance and is a great place to start.
This book is a little gem if you could be a sufferer of the allergy that beleaguered this woman for so many years. I read it fully in one hour. Though I'm not allergic to salicylate, I marveled at the many foods (and drink) in which it's found. Makes me wonder if some of the nagging health issues we all encounter may have a connection to a food intolerance or allergy.I've resolved to be a better observer of patterns and connections between what I ingest and how I feel afterwards. I'm hoping to learn something positive about my food health and body behavior. (Note-this doesn't come naturally to a man.)What I injoyed best is the "never say die" attitude of the author. Mrs. Ablahani went to a variety of medical professionals, yet never received actionable and comprehensive advice. She received, at best, fragmented and incomplete care. Through suffering, hard work, and persistence, this woman put the pieces together for her own recovery. This book is a little "exercise in love", written to prevent others from going through life like she did, and having to learn the hard way. Bravo!
Very informative and finally able to shed some light on what my doctors didn't diagnose. The burning in my mouth finally had a name and a reason. Salicylate Intolerance or Burning Mouth syndrome.She clearly explains what foods to stay away from and after following her recommendations, in three days I didn't get the burning or sore tongue anymore. Very glad I purchased this!!
Mrs. Ablahani's personal health journey in our modern age of food additives and lack of nutrition.I am on the slow road to recovery after years of feeling tired all the time! Thank you Joan!p.s. Please write a follow up book on more of your personal recipes.
Good introductory book on salicylate intolerance
Great book for someone who is looking for answers and experiencing odd symptoms from salicylates. It's an easy read and seems to be accurate.. I believe the author shared her story to help others because this disorder is very difficult to figure out when you are going through it. I've been to multiple doctors and they just want to prescribe more meds which probably was the cause of this problem in the first place. I'm thankful for this book and the authors insight on the salicylate sensitivity forum.
