I have read the other books by this author and wondered if I would like short stories by her. What I always enjoy is her characters and I wondered if they would meet my expectations in short story form. So many romance short stories seem rushed. They have so much to put in such a small space. Her stories are not rushed. Some of these stories you just come into a point of the relationship that is full of change. They are sweet and real. Worthy of reading.

Although I enjoy Kimberly's books and characters. Each ebook of hers that I have read is in serious need of editing. As a reader it is frustrating to have the flow of the story interrupted by editing mistakes.

I have loved reading Kimberly Rae Jordan's books. Her writing is clean and very realistic. I especially enjoy her telling the stories of the major characters in her books. It is a delightful way to become involved in a group of people. Thanks!

I usually steer away from short stories because they have 2 strangers meet and fall in love in 10 pages. I was pleasantly surprised by these! The stories concentrated on existing friends finding out that love can be based on more than surface attraction. I enjoyed all of them, and will likely keep them available for quick reads when I need a pick me up or when waiting for one of my kids.

Short, clean romances are my favorite as I am prone to book grip. I would love to see more by this author. She does a great job bringing depth and thoughtfulness to her characters and their stories.

I loved each of these stories! They especially showed God's love and forgiveness, and how with His help we can forgive each other. And the romances were very well done, clean and uplifting.Thank you!

The short stories had me into the book from the beginning. The only problem is they were too short and not enough of them. She's such a good writer she has you into the lives of those she writes about from the start.

It's clear how from Obama's life how he became such a eloquent, elegant, intellectual, disciplined, balanced and compassionate man. I am impressed at how fascinating his life has been and by that I mean before his presidency. I am a big fan of Obama and his family based on what he achieved as our 44th president but after reading the book I know he earned every bit of his soulful nature. Well written and enjoyably readable, he is candid about his achievements and failures. His humanness but yet his extraordinary perseverance make him a fascinating main character. I particularly liked reading about his family in Africa and the time he spent with them. I have no doubt how formative it was for him to be a biracial, half African, half midwestern American living his childhood largely with his grandparents in Oahu having also spent a few of his young years in Indonesia with his mother and stepfather. This is a treat to read!!!!

As Joe Scarborough has joked, Obama wrote his autobiography before he had really done anything. There are benefitsto this. The Audacity of Hope was written when he was already a Senator and about to run for President, and by thenhis political skills had developed considerably. I expect that his next memoir will be extremely well written and polished.But Dreams From My Father is the book that most explains who Obama is. His strengths and weaknesses, which makehim so admired by many and feared by his opponents, come out strongly. Opponents of Obama will find reasons to empathizewith his experience and that of his family, but also will see how that experience shaped his worldview that was imposed onthe American people. This book should also show why many people voted for him in the first place, not only becausehe is an eloquent speaker and skilled writer, but because he has a compelling personal story.Besides the trip to Kenya to search for his family roots, there is an extended reflection on his experience in Chicago as acommunity organizer. I think this reveals a lot about Obama's qualities as well. There is a true desire to help and improve,an intellectual talent, and yet there's always a geographical displacement and emotional detachment, an outsider's perspectivelooking in, that somehow distances him even as he tries to immerse in the milieu. (Contrast Bill Clinton's I feel your pain). He issensitive, perhaps too sensitive and questioning, and yet somehow not empathetic enough for the opposing point of view (e.g.pro life). The end of the book has a reflection from a few years later on being a law student, on justifying the justice system for thepowerless, making clear that he was not only liberal but radical. This shows how in his later political career, even when he triedto transcend partisanship and made a lot of intellectual deliberation, he almost always arrived at conclusions on the left end ofthe spectrum, because he was coming from the far left end. For instance, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, from whom he later had todistance himself, is just a regular normal character in the narrative but was in fact a radical liberationist in his theology.To me the book resembles, in some respects, even the gentle but dark humor, Dennis Kucinich's Courage to Survive, wherehe did in Cleveland what Obama did in Chicago. I can see why Kucinich eventually endorsed Obama even though by 2008 hehad smoothed out his radicalism.Despite the conflict between Western liberalism and traditional African values, Obama is very much a feminist and the Western positionwon out despite his sympathy for Africa. And yet one of the more compelling passages of the book for me, not politically but personally,is at the end where he reflects on how even in a family where the women have held together, the men have often been plagued bydoubts about their race and their masculinity and the cruelty that being male can bring with it. Regardless of politics, that is somethingthat the Obama family seems to have modeled well and overcome in the next generation, with his daughters although he didn't have boys.

It's a wonder I haven't read this book before. Since I first heard about it, I knew it would eventually drift my way and I am thankful it has. Barack's story, like so many others, is one of identity, affirmation, and of his profound sense of being present. Through eloquence and a seemingly poetic choice of words, we ride with him on a bumpy train of curiosity, loss, self exploration, personal development, persistence and joy. We visit each home and at each instance he brings it to life wrapping it in context and history and forcing readers to consider its impact on those involved.As an African American man who has gained some momentum in being authentically me, I appreciate how much of him is also an amalgamation of those closest to him. Thank you Barack for sitting down and taking the time to share your journey with me, it was a worthy venture to explore this chapter in your life. However, as it should be, I'm left wanting more.

The best version of this is the audio version which Obama reads himself, even with different accents. This is a poignant book which describes his multi-cultural, biracial upbringing and thus explains his constant urge to help people understand each other, his desire to bridge divides. I had a paperback copy but I bought both the hardback version of the book, for enjoyment in the years to come, and the audio, which is captivating.

I wanted to read this over the length of his presidency, but it never happened. It was a great read. Really helped me understand inner city life and the struggles of the black community. I appreciate his honesty and how hard he fought to make people's lives easier. Makes sense why he was such a great president. I was especially moved with how he explained the challenges of being both white and black. Such a great memoir. Fantastic.

A well-written book with unique insight on the early thinking of our future President. Although it is not a traditional autobiography, it has an even-paced narrative that sounds genuine and non-political. The only downside from my perspective is the lack of closure with his experience as a community organizer in Chicago. It seems that he accomplished a lot in Chicago and he vowed to return after his time in Harvard. But I'm curious to know the progress of Altgeld Gardens. Did he pick up where he left off? Or did he simply moved on because there's not much else he could've done. All in all, it's a very good read.

This is well written but a tad boring. The author has enough sense of humor to season it a bit but didn't use it. Too bad.This is an early work from our former president and it somewhat shows in the delivery.That said, it addresses and evidences the difficulties inherent to a bi-racial/bi-families child.

After completing a biology degree at Simon Fraser University, Alison Watt went on to study botany at the University of British Columbia. She has worked as a seabird researcher and as a naturalist in parks across BC. For my needs, this Collegiate is a much better dictionary than the more simplified others, such as the dictionaries bundled with Kindle. Its definitions are more extensive and nuanced, especially useful when reading older material where the meanings of words (and the words themselves) have changed over time. Many times I have have found the more nuanced meanings of better authors in their selection of words.It is simple to make this the default dictionary in Kindle instead of the bundled one.At its heart, It is a standalone full copy of the Collegiate Dictionary, and can also be fully accessed as a separate book within Kindle. This makes browsing enjoyable, not just of its listings (including such pictures as dictionaries have) but also its supplemental materials.When using it as a writer (I know the word, but not its spelling, nor if I completely understand the word I seek to use) and not as a reader, I would have been more pleased if those who had added electronic usability had also made it more intuitive to those of us with poorer ability to spell by more simply allowing the browsing for a word as is done with a paper dictionary. Yes, the pages are there exactly as they are in the paper version, but, for me, the electronics are not as good as the physical movement of the pages or groups of pages. It might be that adding a line which could be dragged at the top to change the pages displayed would further improve this.

Although this is a fantastic dictionary, the kindle version is flawed. If you are planning to use this as a kindle dictionary, you'll often run into definitions that contain the word itself. Even in hard copy dictionary this is a bit of a pain, but nothing significant as you can quickly do one more lookup for the root word. A simple example, happiness entry in this dictionary is "the state of being happy". This is not going to work in kindle as it's not easy to perform secondary/tertiary lookup. I often find myself switching back to default in kindle (especially oxford american dictionary, which gets this right.)I've always wondered, why and how dictionaries get away with this. Obviously the reason I am looking up a word is that I do not know what it means, so the definition should probably not include the very word itself.

As a native Chinese who has never lived in an English-speaking country, this dictionary, though still a bit tough for me, is fantastic and enormously helpful for my English study. I am a graduate student now and have learned English as a second language for almost 15 years. Unfortunately, however, the English training I have received these years is not only boring, but also troublesomely unbalanced. It largely serves the aim of passing the exams held by Chinese education ministrative authority, thus making our Chinese learned a set of Chinese type English named as "Chinglish", which is characterized by an abundance of oddly ingenuine usages of words, phrases and sentences. I have gradually realized this matter and been dying for tasting the relish of genuine English, especially American English. Therefore, until one day I saw a highly recommended comment at Quora, about what a Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary could do for you, I just realized this dictionary is what I need. I was deeply fascinated by it at the moment I got it and saw its gorgeous cover, decent printing and rich items. After that, I almost opened it every day and spent quite much time reading it. It is proved to be the best and most helpful dictionary with most genuine American usage, and I can not help myself loving it!!! That is why I scored it as five stars.

The dictionary is very useful. I have Merriam-Webster Android version also, however I wanted hardcover type one. Because; 1) I'd like read/check preface, explanatory chart, explanatory notes, and so on this dictionary (it meaning, I'd like to read preface and appendixes of Webster). It's useful and important for deeply understanding. 2) I have Oxford paperback type. I love both dictionaries. But, hardcover type is more better for a a long time to keep good condition.So, I recommend hardcover type dictionary even it's very heavy :) However, when I opened the dictionary at first... I'm very shocked for so bad condition/quality... One page is severely corrupted (It's not second hand). I think Amazon is not bad. It's just publisher's problem. In actually, I'd like to request to change. But, I'm in Japan... so let it go (If I request to change the new one, I have to wait 2 more weeks... I need the dictionary "NOW", it's not next month). I know it's very rare case, it's not so much (I had never seen that condition on English books. It's first time). I think dictionary is the most important book in all books. If this likely rare condition is on a kind of novel, I was not so much shocked. So, I recommend that if you want to buy a dictionary, real book store (not online) is better, because we can check the condition before buying it.

Perfect, you can't find a hard cover dictionary in many stores anymore, and this is just what I was looking for. FYI: laminated just means it has a high gloss finish with a very thin plastic coating to make it shine. I like to create quick tabs out of post-it notes they do not come with the dictionary.

Being that I am dyslectic, a dictionary is of an absolute to me. As I write this, if it were not for spell check, this would make no sense to anyone. So, for me I believe that every home should have a dictionary. The computer has made it to easy for everyone to depend on the spell check and not truly learn how to spell. That posses a problem when you have to read. So, both of my sons learned at home, not in school, how to use a dictionary, just like I did "IN SCHOOL"The other reason it is so handy, is sometimes, not even the spell check can find the correct spelling for certain words, for me. When I have this come up, the dictionary comes out. I ALWAYS find in it what the computer does not! My dictionary is always on the left side of my desk. It is invaluable.

The last refuge of the old bicyclist. Rail trails are great for those of us who can't grind the steep grades anymore. This book has clear directions for finding trail heads and parking

Great info for planning our road (trail) cycling adventures. I know it will be one our tools in putting together our ride "wish list" also. Wish it was available as a smart phone app. I would give it 5:5 stars if was spiral bound (Personal preference for reference material).

This book was essential for our two week riding trip. Details are great.

This book has great bike rides on the rails to trails in the northwest.

Good start to finding new paved paths for biking.

Trouble is this is probably the best there is folks. I noticed that this book states you need both a bike light and a helmet light for Hiawatha path but not when we rode it and so far the official on line site doesn't say that. I got the feeling that some of these trails were put together by contacting the local care takers and that the authors of the book didn't actually visit each & every one of the trails or ride them. Just something about it. Perhaps the authors did but it's not clear and doesn't feel like they did. Over all it's ok but would like more info about where the turn offs to the sites are & parking facilities & camping information and water etc. Problem is there just aren't that many books out there for riding. We wish these trails would also loose the large gravel beds and go with some finer material. For now its pretty much all there is out there folks. And with that we'll take what we can here.PS if you are biking on these trails that have the long tunnels having a bike and helmet or head light is most helpful. Those with the highest power and beam really helps too. We are cavers and were shocked how little our lights dented the darkness and was forced off our bikes more than once to walk through some of the longest tunnels. We will meet with friends this Sept for yet another trip from bottom up at Hiawatha highly recommended by the way as the best way to go...we go up then pretty much coast back down. Less people it seems and we get to take our time on the up and the grade is not all that difficult stopping to take pictures along the way. Takes a bit longer and we also stopped at the upper area just before we'd have to share a road with vehicles and fight with the terrible dust on a dry day. So turned around there. You need to bring your money along as you'll run into a Ranger to collect the fees no matter if you are at the top or at the bottom which has no ticket taker....they ride daily to catch ya all! Get out and bike...good family fun too! Now the question is can I camp with or without a permitt right there?

As an avid hiker, backpacker and supporter of Rails to Trails Conservancy, I'm quite thrilled Ms. Bartley wrote this book. I wish more people, especially our elected officials would take note of the movement. Do note, this book is an updated and slightly revised version of Rails-to-Trails Washington & Oregon (Rail-Trails Mid-Atlantic: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia,)The Official Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Guidebook for Washington and Oregon by Mia Barbera.Nearly 80 trails are identified in the book with more than half being located in Washington State. That's certainly good news if you live in Washington as do I. The downside, I feel, and this is more to do with circumstance than omission, is the small amount of trails in Eastern WA.Nicely written, this book invites novice and serious hikers alike to experience everything from short walks to multi-day backpacking expeditions.I do wish this book was laid out better with pertinent information at the beginning of each hike. Also, an index would be extremely beneficial. Those two issues were the reasoning behind a 4* vice 5* review.

This is a must have reference book for all adventures both serious and casual. The book is well laid out and easy to read. Having been to several of these trails, it is obvious the author has personally walked or biked these trails. The descriptions and directions are dead-on accurate. I've traveled the NW for nearly half a century and have accumulated an extensive guide book library with books of just about every type of adventure you can imagine. If I were to make a short list of those most valuable, this book is on that list. I highly recommend you buy this book, review the trails, mark a few as "must do" and put it in your vehicle for when you have that weekend free to explore someplace new. - Adventure Dog
