Very impressed thus far. It's not, and I'm guessing not intended to be the end all be all Java book. At least for me, it's simple, practical examples that I can use and refer to as I leverage other resources to learn Java to a level at which I'm employable. There are lots, LOTS of great books, videos and other resources to learn anything. The secret is to find what works for YOU. This appears to be what I need to help me understand other material. This is a supplement, not a primary source. It's worth more than it costs.

This is a concise, well written, and well organized book. I didn't even realize I was 'learning' until I was coding a project and got it correct without double checking punctuation, spelling, capitalization, etc. One warning, though, unless you're one of the lucky few who can pick up a skill simply by reading, coding the projects by hand transcription is almost a necessity. I love this book so far.

Finally a Java book that makes it easy to learn the basics. All other Java books I have read got into too much detail and explanation without proper examples. This book takes you step by step with easy to follow program from the beginning to the end.

As someone who has experience with Java for as long time, I still found the book to be very useful. It assumes the reader does not have prior knowledge of programming and starts of with the history/origin of Java and slowly building on concepts from there. Since the goal of the book is to learn Java in a day, not every minute nuance is given or every programming tidbit mentioned, as it should be. This is a good, quick introduction to Java and it will not disappoint. I also have the Learn Python in a day... book by this same author, and my comments are the same for it.

This is an excellent choice of introductory Java text. It is much more readable and complete than most in this price range. I first learned the Python language from the author's similar title on Python, so when I wanted to review Java I downloaded this text and found it to be of the same high quality. Clean, concise chapters make this text well suited for self paced study.

For $3 (kindle version) this book is a steal. Like any book (rather than say a bunch of scattered articles or blog pages) you're going to get a nicely synthesized set of information that guides you from top to bottom in a cohesive way.This book is particularly good for people who are already familiar with programming (especially scripting language folks like Python or Ruby) as it quickly gets you and up and running on Java in a matter of hours. The chapter on OOP is particularly great!

I use this for my comp sci students who want to learn more. It's a decent book for beginners but can be a challenging read for young students just learning. Very clearly written and a good book to have in the classroom as a resource.

I purchased this as a kindle download after reading a sample, everything I searched for I found but more importantly it was presented in an easy to read/understand way, unlike the textbook I tried to use. This compliments the videos I had been watching online

The maps are okay. A little too small for my eyesight, although the size of the book is convenient. Some of the chapters combine barrios, which has advantages and disadvantages. The bar/restaurant recommendations that we followed, which were only a few, usually turned out relatively well. They were essentially accurate and worth our time. The Argentinian words list was helpful. I was with someone from Buenos Aires who does not speak English, so she could not translate words when she used words particular to Argentina that I did not understand (I learnt Spanish in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic). So from that list I picked up some words that I would otherwise not have known. A different travel book that I got from my library had useful information about how Argentinians cook and order their steak, which is very good. They usually cook it "cocido," which literally means "cooked," and which is what North Americans would usually call medium (maybe just slightly past medium, in some instances). If you want rare or medium rare, you say "jugoso" or "a punto," respectively, and may have to convince your server. The information in this book about how many pesos per dollar is old. The black market rate was about 13.30 pesos per dollar when I was there (January 2015), while banks in the United States were offering me about 7.5 per dollar. But be careful about crime in Buenos Aires. I read recently it is the theft capital of Latin America. Some Argentinians don't trust banks and may sometimes carry around lots of cash. On the whole, I don't regret this purchase. But I'm not ecstatic with enthusiasm.

this book was just the perfect size to bring around while travelling! not very heavy, not very thick.paper quality was great.the street map and train map were very helpful!i'm really glad i bought this and brought it to my trip.we checked off a lot on the lists mainly because our online research showed generally the same must-visit places, anyway, so we ended up using this book as a constant reference.however, nothing will definitely replace just being in buenos aires and getting a better feel and enjoyment of the place, including places we definitely enjoyed exploring that were not in the book.there were places, too, that caught our attention and took pics of and later found out were in the book.the other minor lists (top argentinian wines, top cafes, etc) served very handy while walking around and had to do/buy something on the fly. or trying to figure out what to order in the restos.the top lists are not without faults, though. we agreed and disagreed to items listed in the lists but it's probably more personal preferences than anything.because most of what we saw in our online research on buenos aires and our actual discoveries while in buenos aires showed up in this book, i felt this book is 'legit." :-)in fact, i will definitely get their other top 10 books for other places.lastly, this is definitely worth buying just for the street map and train maps alone. it has maps in the book itself and has another handy, plastic foldable map u can easily put in your pocket that we constantly used. we had a gps loaded in one of our cell phones (and it helped!) but we ended up relying on these old printed maps more.

Excellent Guide Book, very nicely organized around the "Top 10" Categories (Top 10 sights of Buenos Aires, Top 10 Shopping, Top 10 Restaurants, Top 10 Historical sights, etc.). The descriptions in the book reference the area on the included street map so it is easy to get around town.This book lead me to what was most important for me to see while in Buenos Aires - an Argentine Tango Show!!! Thanks to this book I found Piazzolla Tango - San Martin 170 // Florida 165 -, Buenos Aires, Argentina. My friends and I had an unforgettable evening - 30 minute Tango lesson, incredible steak dinner, all the wine we could drink, an incredible 2 hour music and dance exhibition, transportation from our hotel to the show and back - all for $68 US!!!!

Very convenient and easy to carry around. The included map that can be detached from the book and carried in one's pocket is very useful. Also the tips about places to see and things to do were very helpful. I bought two guidebooks and this was the only one I used for my weeklong trip to Buenos Aires.

Well, I got this book in plenty of time, but after studying it, I decided to leave it behind. I've been to Buenos Aires now, I've returned home, and I pulled this book out again to see if, having been there, it made more sense. Unfortunately, it doesn't, really. It's about the organization more than anything. Top 10 WHAT? is a question I still can't answer. I don't know why they called it Top 10. A lot of info in there, though. Just poorly organized, in my opinion.

As always Top 10 is in my Top 10 choices for guidebooks. Never disappoints! In the first read I was able to narrow in my choice neighborhood to stay in and start building an itinerary for a four day stay.

I'll be spending a week in Buenos Aires in the fall. I've been to BA several times, and was looking for a guide that would lead me to things worth seeing that aren't on the regular tourist tours. This guide lists the 10 best in a variety of categories. The maps that come with it will help me find my way by train, subway or on foot. Looking forward to using this guide on my trip!

I'm not sure if the other reviewers work for Michelin, but I can't believe we're reviewing the same guide. Maybe I'm just looking for something different from my review guide, like some sort of guidance.Briefly, because I can't believe I'm wasting more time on this particular book, this guide DOES contain write-ups of many restaurants. They are arranged alphabetically by neighborhood. So the first issue is that you have to know EXACTLY which neighborhood you're in. No problem - I live here now, except that means I know that there are different levels of granularity that are used to distinguish neighborhoods. This book is minutely detailed for mid-town, but lumps most of Brooklyn together in one. In other words, it's inconsistent in it's organization, which makes it hard to navigate.As far as the reviews go, I've never come across a more confusing grading system. I'd heard of Michelin stars and I know they are given out sparingly. Very few restaurants in this guide are actually recommended and those that do are invariably extremely expensive (unless you've lived in London, in which case it's probably what you'd pay to go to a gastropub). Instead, you have to sift through half-page write-ups to understand what's available. Every description is a rave, even the mediocre restaurants. In short, these reviews are untrustworty and offer zero guidance. On the plus side, there are occasional photos of empty restaurants to liven up the proceedings, but this isn't a GUIDE. It's a compendium of overly-gushing-but-too-short-to-be-truly-useful reviews. Also, there's no guidance as to which reviews to read, so you have to sift them all. Oh, they've tried: there's a stupid little cartoon Michelin man who supposedly represents "good value" who pops up when you least expect him. Well, all I can say is their definition of value doesn't match mine.So, it's not a guide (despite what the title would suggest), it's big, it's heavy, the reviews are not too hot. What else could it do wrong? Well, how about throwing in a whole bunch of completely irrelevant HOTEL reviews? Yes, this self-proclaimed restaurant guide wastes valuable time, weight, and space on a selection of independent hotel (ie non-chain) reviews. If it said anything other than good things about every single hotel, it would probably be useful. Instead, it smacks suspiciously of product placement.Do yourself a favor and buy another guide for hotel listings (or use the internet) and then buy the Zagat guide for restaurants.

I bought this book on a limb, not really knowing what to expect...But WOW am I glad it did! Could not have been happier with my purchase. I have little experience in trading and all I can say is WOW!!! Hands down one of the best books I have ever read on Trading/Stocks/Life Story/Wall Street. I sat down to read this book two nights ago and honestly could not put it down. Not only does Mr. Kane have one heck of a great life story, being a stock Guru, but he talks about Wall Street in a way that anyone can understand. If you are a Novice at trading like myself or a master on Wall Street, I would recommend you reading this. High Finance gives you the bigger picture of the stock market, which is so valuable, while also showing you how to invest wisely, efficiently, and worry free. Big secrets were told in this book, and that's all I will say. HUGE eye opener reading this book, and I look forward to following High Finance's advice in making my first $1,000,000.I think this book would be great for everyone. I could even see a university picking this book up and using it for class material. Really great tools in here. Bought the Kindle version but am about to buy the paper copy because it is such a great book.

Logan provides a lot of keen insight on investing. I couldn't help but take notes along the way. After reading this book, I feel much more confident about entering the trading world and picked up on some great ideas on where to start (and what to avoid). I appreciate the personal anecdotes he included along the way, too. I now realize how important it is to understand the financial world and how making smart decisions earlier in life can make a significant difference later down the road.

This is a great read. The author takes what tends to be thought of as complex finance and investment terms and strategies and easily breaks them into simpler terms the most common of lay investors could understand. I definitely recommend this for anyone even remotely interested in trading or investing in the financial markets.

Wow! New read from Emma Prince isawesome. This the first book in the Enchanted Falls trilogy. Each book is written by a different author and I can’t wait for the next book. It is about three sisters on a vacation in Scotland. They all jump into an enchanted waterfall. Our first book begins when Caroline emerges from a loch in 1394 Scotland in the middle of a skirmish between rival clans. The other two sisters are gone. I couldn’t put this down, actually I didn’t want to. Thus begins Caroline’s and Laird Callums story. It is a wonderful story of love. family, magic and making hard choices. The characters are beautifully written and easy to love. I highly recommend this book and will wait impatiently for book two.

WOW!!! I just loved this book to where I couldn't put it down! I loved all the characters especially Caroline, full of spunk, energy and not afraid to get her hands dirty. I enjoy time travel, it's so much fun with all the twists and turns and Hot Highlander men meeting up with strong women from the future is truly entertaining. This was such an Awesome book I just Pre-Ordered the other two, even though I can't wait to read them because patience is not my virtue, but I can Pre-Order and will get them as soon as they're released. This is quite the fun read!♡ I am a fan of historical romance and of course time travel Romance.This series is of three sisters and the books are written by other authors. It's about the sisters travel through time and learning to associate with the people in that time was also trying to find what happened to each sister and of course trying to figure out a way back home or stay with the hero.Being on vacation I finish this in one sitting and of course the second book as well of the series and I'm sitting here awaiting the next book in the series. But as I said this was quite the pleasure to read and I just couldn't wait to get ahold of the next one. some parts of the book had me blushing and swooning at the same time!Highly recommend if you are a fan of time travel Romance!

Loved this book!! The romance and suspense is unbelievable, the imagination and description of lands they traveled through were breath taking. I really enjoyed Scotland when I was there last. It is not like the past but still gorgeous with ruins and castles, keeps, villages and tales galore. I read as many Emma Prince book's as I can and have never been disappointed. Yummy sexy, men and women, suspenseful with emotional feelings being felt the entire length of the book. Can't wait to read Book 2 of the trilogy.

I normally only read highlander romances & scottish romance. I do not read time travel for some reason time travel seems too fakey. But, after saying that, this small time travel with lots of highland romance was a great read! I anxiously await the other two romances in this series and I am glad I gave this time travel a chance!

This is a great time travel romance without any of the usual macho stuff that can turn me off. It didn't involve any of the difficulties of the main characters hurting each other all through the story to finally get together at the end . The characters were likeable all the way through. Very enjoyable. If you like the idea of falling in love with a big dashing warrior , you will love it too. Can't wait to read the next book.

I have tried to white a review for this book but i can't without spoiling it for other readers that haven't read this gem yet. I don't usually read time travelling books. I am so glad I got this book. It had me enthralled from the beginning to the end. I can't wait to find out about Hannah and Ally. Get this book and read it. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Caroline Sutton, the youngest of three sisters, finds herself traveling to the 14th century after jumping from the enchanted falls. She is captured by Callum, a highland chieftain who believes she belongs to an enemy clan. After many misunderstandings, they fall madly in love. Caroline debated between following her heart and finding her sisters. She ended up marrying her highlander and he helps her reunite with one of her sisters. Great story!
