This book reads like an introduction to the concept known as Neurobic exercises. In all honesty, I was tempted to skip a few chapters ahead and read just the exercises themselves, but I am glad that I didn’t. The first 5 chapters are informative as to why and when you should do the exercises, how to choose the best ones for you and general information about the brain and the exercises. Although it did get repetitive at times, there was some good information tucked into those chapters. One thing that I found to be especially helpful was learning why certain neurological disorders exist.I admit, this book wasn’t what I expected. I was thinking that the book had activities in it like Sudoku or logic puzzles. However, it is a good read (and a pretty fast read, the book isn’t very long). The activities outlined are not difficult and even kinda fun. I actually have done a lot of these with my daughter from the time she was born, and I’ll tell you this, she is very smart. Most every exercise can be completed with the things you have on hand, spices from your rack for example. As for the effectiveness, I would need to update this review in about 30 years to tell you for sure, but I will say that doing these does make your brain work differently. I can actually feel my brain trying to figure out what is going on and how to perform the exercises (weird, right?).There were a few typos, grammatical errors and incorrect words used that irked me a bit. Not that I don’t make the same mistakes, lol.All in all it was an ok read. I would especially recommend it to parents of little ones, these exercises are great for them!Full disclosure: I have received this product at a reduced price in exchange for an HONEST review. I take reviewing seriously (as I rely on reviews myself when purchasing products) and will only give 100% truthful feedback. I NEVER receive product in exchange for giving a favorable review. Don’t believe me? Check out my other reviews. A free product does not equal a 5 star review with me.

Every day I find myself forgetting the simplest things. My problem mostly stems from having Fibromyalgia and the “Brain Fog” that accompanies it. As I was looking for new and uncomplicated ways to combat this annoying symptom, I found Jason Scotts book, Exercise For the Brain: 70 Neurobic Exercises to Increase Mental Fitness & Prevent Memory Loss. After reading, I believe that the Neurobic Exercises described in this book are a great step toward increasing my mental fitness and preventing memory loss. They are mostly easy and don’t take much time and can be incorporated into every day life.In my own experiences I have learned that my thoughts can determine my mood. For example, I can talk myself right into a bad mood just by thinking about every problem in my life. When I focus on happy and positive things, I tend to keep an upbeat mood. It makes sense to me also from the point of behavioral change theory which I learned of in college. Behavioral Change Theory says that behavior change causes a change in one’s beliefs. It only makes sense that focusing on changing your routine actions and thoughts can help you change your mind, or mental health.I’ve been doing many things in a new way since I read this book. There are 70 different exercises described in the book to help you, but it seems you can try it with everything you do. Yesterday I swept and mopped with my left hand. Wow, pretty weird, but the longer I did it, the easier it was. I just put my mind to it and I did it. I also tried brushing my hair and buttoning my pants. The hair was ok, I have a lot of it, so had to finish with my other hand. Buttoning pants was really hard, but somehow did it. I’m wondering if it will get easier, it will be interesting to see.I’m really happy that I was picked to review this book for free in exchange for my honest review. It gave me so many ideas on things I can easily do to keep my mind active. With a chronic pain illness and brain fog it can get discouraging when you can’t do much to help yourself. This is something I Can do and it feels great to be able actively take charge of something in my life.

We all worry about our brain deteriorating before our age does... Ok, at least I do! I always wonder why I can remember all the lyrics to every hair band 80's song but I can't remember what I walked in the other room to get... Or where my glasses are when they are on top of my head. So, I figure it is good to do things to help keep thinking clearly as I continue to age. These exercises suggested are really easy. They seem like they would help. I understand what the author is talking about. I am not real fond of crossword puzzles but it is good to remember that they make us think and help us with recollection of information. I try to not give out spoilers in books I review. But I know that many would be interested in this book if they realized the way we need to keep working our brains. I think this book is also great for people who cannot get out much. It gives them stimulus to think about. I enjoyed this book a lot!@ {----<---MessyIf my review was helpful, please click yes! :) I rely heavily on reviews when I make my purchases, so I like to think you can trust mine!I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my HONEST review. The price I pay for a product has no bearing on my opinion. I try to list pros and cons and give my true feelings about all products.

On the plus side, it's all five books in one volume. However, in "Life, the Universe, and Everything" and "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish," the text has been edited to be more "American," and a number of the jokes are gone altogether (e.g. The Rory award is no longer for the gratuitous use of the word "Belgium" in a screenplay; it's for the gratuitous use of the word "f***" in a screenplay). Won't be noticed by anyone who has never read the series, but I hate the editing changes as I know what used to be there!

Douglas Adams was my first introduction to British humor. As a kid that grew up in rural MO during the pre-internet era, this book was one of the first indications I had that the world outside my little cow-filled bubble was a much bigger place than the simple folk around me were letting on. I came back to Hitchhiker's Guide when I was a homesick 20-something in Denmark, acclimating to an entirely new environment, new language, and new life. Most recently, I picked up this copy prior to my 42nd birthday. There are lots of changes happening now and things really seem to be coming together. I can't help but wonder at the timing. You sass? Clever, insightful, and maybe even revelatory in the most absurd way, The Guide is a timeless space adventure that has helped me find my own place in the universe.

If you are going to read the complete “Hitchhiker” series then I recommend buying “The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” as it contains all five of the books in the series. Having them in one volume encourages you to read them soon after each other, and I think that enhances the experience. The collection also contains the horrid story “Young Zaphod Plays It Safe” and it is a waste of space in the text. But, that is a small quibble, and the story is short.I enjoyed the series, mostly, and I would recommend it to certain readers. For more specifics see below where you will find my review for all five of the novels in chronological order.1. “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” is short and never gives much development (character or plot) but it seems appropriate for this tale. The novel reminds me a lot of Vonnegut in its style and presentation. Short chapters and biting satire mixed with fantastical plot devices. And it all works! The introduction and first chapter of this novel are funny and pull you into the book. There are moments that are so clever and witty that you will find yourself re-reading certain lines for no reason other than to enjoy them once again. Chapter 23 of the text (perhaps the book’s most famous) is brilliant and to the point. It is very short, funny, and kind of wise. Its opening line, “It is an important and popular fact that things are not often what they seem” could be a thematic statement for the book. One of the novel’s key devices is the idea that Earth is an experiment, and without revealing too much, I will say that it gives the novel its focus. Also enjoyable are the characters of Marvin the paranoid android and Eddie, the shipboard computer on “The Heart of Gold” (a spaceship that serves as the novel’s main setting). Some of the text’s best moments and lines belong to them, and I was more endeared to them than I was to the novel’s two human characters.“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” is a delightful and quick read and I will be continuing my trip through the galaxy with its sequel, “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.”2. “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe” reads like a typical adventure tale, and it is more in this genre than its predecessor “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. The restaurant of the title is a place where the characters go and can literally watch the end of the Universe during dinner. Trust me, the way Mr. Adams explains it, it makes sense! The plot of the novel begins right where its predecessor left off, and the set up is that space psychiatrists plot to kill Arthur Dent and Trillian because they are the last survivors from Earth, which we found out in “Hitchhiker” was an experiment designed to answer the purpose of “Life, the universe, and everything.” The psychiatrists do not want that question answered because they would be out of business. And with this clever premise it is off to the races. In this delightful and quick romp of a novel we get to meet space psychiatrists, rock stars, and the ruler of the universe. And it goes without saying that none of it is as expected. The satire of the rock stars and bands is wonderful, as is the clever jab at rock stars that use to flee tax jurisdictions to record albums. In the book one mega space rock star even goes into “suspended death” for two years for the tax deductions. The last 20 pages of the book contain some pretty rough satire of modern professions and social dynamics. And then the text ends abruptly, like Mr. Adams was leading you into the next novel. It worked, because I will be continuing my journey with these hitchhikers. You should too!3. Of the three novels that I have read so far out of the five that compose the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” series, “Life, the Universe and Everything” is the weakest, but it is still incredibly good. The whole book feels like a Monty Python sketch, but the first few chapters especially feel that way. It works, but it does get a little tiresome after a while. The humor in this text is mostly through wordplay. It serves the book well and is a strength of this novel because in terms of plot “Life, the Universe and Everything” is all over the place. The unity of the wordplay and humor serves to coalesce (as much as it can) a very scattered text. Especially enjoyable is a clever discourse on swear words, their usage and how they evolve and change. In the world of this novel the word “Belgium” is their equivalent of the F-word. This part of the novel is a witty piece of satirical writing, and is very enjoyable. There are two interesting bits in this novel I would like to share in this review. The first is one of my favorite cameo appearances in this entire series thus far, the character of Wowbagger, the Infinitely Prolonged. He is an alien who through an accident has immortality and is bored to tears. So he makes it a mission to insult everyone in the Universe. His occasional appearances in this story are a joy. Another aspect of the text that I enjoyed is that the ultimate question and answer to everything remains unexplained. There is also a thinly veiled satire aimed at religious symbols where it seems Adams is mocking finding value in such things. It is an engaging section of the text.I will be moving on to the fourth book in this series soon. I have enjoyed this ride so far!4. This fourth novel in the series begins exactly as the first one, word for word, with one small twist. You can decide for yourself what you think of that twist. I did not care for it, as it shifts the focus in this text from the ones that preceded it. “So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish” begins with Arthur Dent back on earth, which is no longer destroyed (it was blown up in the first book of the series) but the explanation for how this is so is best glossed over if one wants to fully enter the world of the text. This novel does not feature the other characters from the previous three, so fans of Zaphod Beeblebrox and Trillian will be disappointed. Other series staples such as Ford Prefect and Marvin the Android make cameos in the novel’s final pages, but they seemed forced and not all that interesting in the context Mr. Adams uses here. This are some shining moments in this book, among them chapter 25 in which the author’s persona intrudes into the text to answer the question “Does Arthur Dent f-word?” We also get to see “God’s final message to His creation”, and it is actually not a letdown. At one point in the novel Arthur tells someone “See first, think later, then test” as the best way to approach something one does not fully comprehend. If you don’t take the last two parts of his advice while you are reading “So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish” you can enjoy the text.I am anxious to see how the series concludes in installment 5, and I will be traveling that way soon.5. "Mostly Harmless" is a great example of a writer extending a series by one book too many. Of the five books in the "Hitchhiker" series numbers four and five don't add much to it, and take a lot from it. "Mostly Harmless" just feels out of sync with the books that preceded it. Stylistically it is also very different, the chapters are much longer, the humor is much rarer, etc. It is not a good change.A big flaw of the text is that our hero Arthur Dent does not even show up until chapter seven, and even when he does there is no transition from how we left him in book four, "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish." From chapter seven to almost the final 40 pages the chapters alternate point of view between Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect. I found Prefect's story boring until his storyline merges with Dent's about 3/4s of the way through the novel. The book does have some good moments, particularly chapter nine in which it finally feels like the other novels in the series. Arthur Dent goes to the planet Hawalius to seek the advice of the oracles that inhabit it. In this chapter we see sparks of the Douglas Adams from the previous texts and it is a joy to read. There is also a witty cameo appearance by Elvis, which is cleverly woven into the plotline. As has been stated in previous reviews "Mostly Harmless" is a dark text, almost nihilistic in its themes. The series ends in a uncharacteristic manner. Although as a reader I did not like the ending per se, I do feel it was kind of appropriate. It feels jarring and out of place at the same time. I can't say much more without spoiling it. Regardless it does give the series a sense of definite completion, and I think that is a good thing.

This was one of those books that I find a lot of people have heard of but not a lot of people have read - if you're one of those people and you like dry, satire-style humor and imaginative science fiction, certainly give this book a try. This book is super easy to read and is a humorous take on space and time travel. It follows a 'normal' man who unknowingly befriends an alien hitchhiker and is taken along on some entertaining journeys through space. They go to other universes, meet interesting characters, discover futuristic technology (including a melodramatic, depressed robot), and discover the ACTUAL answer to the universe! The only question left now is... what exactly was the question? Sounds ridiculous, I know, but you really get sucked in!

Beautiful book and a great story. I recommend this to anyone. I originally read these books on my Kindle and enjoyed them so much I had to look for something worth displaying on my bookshelf. This is perfect. The design is great, it is sturdy, and the print is a nice size.

My English teacher wasn't amused 35 years ago when I said this was my favorite line in literature. (It wasn't, but I do love it.) Douglas Adams was everything an sf writer should be: witty, humane and imaginative, and this work illustrates it all.A better quote is, “And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, a girl sitting on her own in a small café in Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything,” but that's too long for a classroom discussion in freshman English

Strangely entertaining throughout, but it does get a bit tedious and "off the wall" at times (typical of Adams style, I suppose). "Marvin" the robot was my favorite character, fondly remembering Alan Rickman as I read the book. Recommended for those who are willing to take a flight of fancy on a cold winter's day----or more. The film of the same name is equally odd and worth watching. Now, I'm reading the Dirk Gently "Holistic Detective Agency" book and find them equally strange and sometimes difficult to follow.

Given the many Amazon reviews of this book, I limit myself to an iconoclastic thought. The Japanese classical code of the Samurai, as adjusted to periods of peace, demonstrates in my view the need for a strict code for politicians. Doing so can be combined with democratic elections, by periodic evaluation of acting politicians by an independent board of Censors, which will publish its assessments and, in extreme cases, recommend to voters not to elect an candidate lacking essemtial moral, emotional and cognitive virtues. Thus, picking some ideas from the code presented in this book, politicians should be frugal, avoids personal luxury; moderating diet and avoiding drink; being warily aloof from sexual feelings, the foremost confusion of humankind; and study and gain an extensive understanding of the principles of things. Looking around at contemporary political leaders, together with awareness of the unprecedented opportunities and fateful dangers posed by emerging technoscience, cannot but lead to some such innovations in democracy, hopefully before the hegemonic type of unqualified senior politicians causes avoidable catastrophesProfessor Yehezkel DrorThe Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Very good translation and peek into history, but the book itself is kind of awful. The societal advice that the author gave to samurai really demonstrates a tyrannically stratified culture.

Code of the Samurai is a great book that could be compared to The Art of War. The is a great read for anyone who is looking for self improvement and discipline. I highly recommend adding to your personal collection or giving as a gift.

Nice easy read. I was curious as to how samurai lived an honorable life hundreds of years ago. Application to modern day is a bit harder but none the less some core values hold true. Except for losing in battle and I quote " Handed their head over with a smile, no signs of flinching." cheers

Wonderful read, and unlike such weightier classics as THE ART OF WAR or THE BOOK OF FIVE RINGS, this one is readily accessible to the western mind. After reading it twice, I came to think that everything after the first chapter -- nay, after the first two paragraphs -- was mere repetition. This is because all the behaviors and philosophies the author recommends would be the natural consequence if one truly were to "keep death in mind at every possible moment."The book is a series of short chapters like "Loyalty," "Finances," "Personal Appearance;" each describing the ideal behavior of an ideal samurai with respect to each.I can't comment on the organization or skill of Cleary's translation, though, since I know of no other version of this book. However I am inclined to think it is adept, since the nature of the work suggests the original Japanese would be extremely stiff. This is not the case with the English.Gripes:1. Note that this is a thin book; you can read it in about an hour. I was expecting something much thicker, at least the size of THE UNFETTERED MIND, say.2. Oscar Ratti's illustrations will be disappointing to those familiar with his work in SECRETS OF THE SAMURAI and AIKIDO: THE DYNAMIC SPHERE. There are only a handful of them, and that handful isn't very interesting.3. The binding of this book came apart rather quickly, after just the first read. Perhaps just my copy, though.4. Sadly, the introduction by Cleary is completely forgettable.

One of the best books I have ever read. If you want to earn the respect of your superiors, read this. If you want to be a better leader, read this. If you want to become a better worker, read this.

Very well written translation. It flows and is fun to read.

One for the bookshelf. Common principles of Bushido.

If you like books about Zombies and the decline of civilization this book is for you. The story is fine and the characters are interesting. Some of the characters are over the top stereotypes. There was some problem with the timing of the story, some stuff that should take a long time to build seem to be done in hours. Characters act as if a lot of time has passed but only a day has passed (not just feeling like it was forever). It almost feels like to much time (or not enough) was spent trying to make the story perfect when fresh eyes might have been needed. Don't get me wrong it is not a bad story. It might even make a really good TV / Movie and I would love to see the Drag Queens in action.

it was a good read..it started a little slow for me, but then i got hooked and enjoyed the story..

If you like zombies, you'll like this book. Two women find each other when the world as they know it comes to an end. Cute book. Nothing new about how the zombies came to be. Just a good survival story.

An excellent read. Romero manages to capture humor, romance, adventure and horror in this novel while creating endeering chatacters.I received this novel for review and I loved it. Don't let the cover fool you, this is a great readValley Of The Dead by Crystal M Romero is a sometimes hilarious, sometimes scary, sometimes romantic but always utterly charming zombie apocalypse novel. And what makes it even better is that it has a lesbian leading lady. The novel starts on Gay Pride weekend to the backdrop of much celebration, since the USA was finally celebrating equality. In Silicon Valley Yvonne had just dumped her long time, cheating girlfriend and was feeling free at last. That is, until she gets a frantic phone call from her very gay best friend, Reggie. He and a bunch of drag queens are stuck in his apartment and need rescuing from the zombie apocalypse that has taken hold of the city. She jumps in her monster of a vehicle, puts on her no nonsense butch approach to the apocalypse and ends up picking up a group of survivors along her route out of town. Eventually the survivors include Reggie and the drag queens, a young couple and two police officers. One of the officers is Captain Jacqueline Rhodes, a competent, gorgeous woman who leaves Yvonne thinking about more than just survival.Together, the survivors must overcome a number of challenges, the least of which is getting out of town and find somewhere safe to settle down.

I'm not into reading woman on woman but I'm into zombies. I almost passed over this book because of its cover but I'm glad I didn't. This sample was fantastic. I'll be buying this book!
